Question about Extracting DNA from a Strawberry.?

I recently did a Lab in my Biology Class, and the object of it was to get DNA from a strawberry. I am currently on the write up now, explaining the use of each item. I am at coffee filter. I am not sure what to write. Yes, I know it may seem simple, but I can't think of anything. It was filter all the unneeded clumps of strawberry, but I guess what I am asking, is why do we only need the left over "juices?"
