WDecoding human DNA and the artificial alteration of fetuses: What do you think?hat would you like to ask?

If scientists succeed in decoding human DNA, this may facilitate them to conduct artificial alteration of the DNA of unborn fetuses or of human egg cells in an effort to improve human health or performance.

Do you think we should alter DNA before a child is born?

If not why?WDecoding human DNA and the artificial alteration of fetuses: What do you think?hat would you like to ask?
I'm a molecular biologist who does this very thing to bacteria and plants and mice. It's already a possibility, however, obvious ethical issues regarding this will thwart any attempts on human fetuses.

However.

I think that there are many wonderful things that can come from gene therapy. Heck, if there was a way to treat idiopathic scoliosis through fetal gene therapy I would have loved it if my parents had allowed that to be done to me. And scoliosis is just a minor thing in most cases.

I'm a firm believer in the good that can come from gene therapy because I see and read about these studies on a daily basis. There really is promise in this field. But again, this kind of technology can be exploited in a terrible way.WDecoding human DNA and the artificial alteration of fetuses: What do you think?hat would you like to ask?
Wisdom follows knowledge via experience.

Therefore man will alter DNA of unborn children before having the wisdom to know all the consequences.

Some consequences are irreversible in both a good and bad way. Therefore some alterations of DNA will have both good and bad consequences.

As man's experience with DNA grows, so will his wisdom.

Therefore the good consequences will predominate in the long run.

50% of the early unforeseen consequences will be bad. 50% of the unforeseen early bad consequences will will be irreversible. Hopefully, these consequences will not preclude the survival of the human race in the distant future.

As wisdom grows on the one hand, a sense of fascination will grow on the other. At first this will involve non human developments such as horses with wings or unicorns and other mythological creatures that are, at present, the creation of human imagination. Winged serpents, lions with wings, a lion with an eagle's head and dogs and cats with wings will become fashionable. Who know how far we will carry this forward with talking monkeys. I am sure there is a movie about this!

Eventually men and women with gills, scales, nictitating membranes and webbed feet will inhabit the tropical oceans. Mermaids are also a possibility, although I doubt that a woman would want her child to lose all her land mobility. But a 'mad' scientist doing a little DNA sequencing on the side might not care.

:-D I think it would be a good idea to watch Blade Runner again.WDecoding human DNA and the artificial alteration of fetuses: What do you think?hat would you like to ask?
i think not, because that is altering a life and what if they are born mess ed up because of what they did?Not only that but thats a crime against humanity and we'll breed a race of super humans and eventually someone like hitler will pop up and really create a super race.
