What is the difference between the Plasmid method and Recombinant DNA in genetic engineering?

I have a bio paper due soon and I can't figure out all of the methods. My teacher wanted the four major methods of genetic engineering and so far I've narrowed it down to the vector method, bioballistics, the plasmid method and recombinant DNA. The plasmid method and recombinant DNA sound nearly identical and if they are the same then what would the fourth method be?What is the difference between the Plasmid method and Recombinant DNA in genetic engineering?
Isn't recombinant DNA when you have the two amino acid strands and they are separated according to they sequences and when they are separated and put together a different way they become recombinant DNA.
