Has science finally discovered what junk DNA is and where it came from?

Can this Junk DNA eventually began to group together and create more helix's besides just the double helix? If so, would we be able to use more of our brain than 10 to 15%?Has science finally discovered what junk DNA is and where it came from?
I'm kind of confused about what you're asking exactly, many of those questions are not related to each other.



Junk DNA is already found in the double helix. It is true that much of our DNA does not code for proteins or even RNA. But we have found that they are helpful in DNA fingerprinting because of tandem/insterpersed repeats (transposons/retrotransposons) as well as Restriction fragment length polymorphisms (RFLP's)

If they discovered: Im not sure, although they did say a few years back that they decoded everything there is to know about our DNA.

Brain 10%-15% : That is not true :p We are using 100% of our brain ever since.

Junk DNA is that set of sequences that are remnants from evolution of our current usable DNA. These sequences no longer play any roles but, due to the enormous time lag of evolution to get rid of unneccasry "stuff" it is just there, gathering dust in the closets of our genetic material. I'm not sure that we would WANT those sequences to become activated as it would result in all sorts of strange effects and wierd looking people. ALL species have this "junk DNA" and eventually (over millions of replications) it will either produce a NEW trait or will disappear entirely.

I don't think they know where it came from, maybe they know what it does on us.
